EVENTS IN THE PICTURESQUE VILLAGE OF POLRUAN RUN THROUGHOUT AUGUST,  LEADING TO POLRUAN'S OWN REGATTA WEEKEND, NEXT ON AUGUST 27TH - 29TH 2016.

Set within an historic shipbuilding village that dates back to the fourteenth century, the 2015 Polruan Regatta took place a week after the end of the Fowey Royal Regatta. We particularly enjoy welcoming and including visiting children and their families in our fabulous three-day celebration.

Not to be confused with its across-the-river counterpart and steeped with over one hundred years of Cornish tradition, all of the events during the Polruan Regatta are organised, marshalled and funded by the Polruan Regatta & Children's Sports Organisation. This is a voluntary organisation whose members give freely of their time and effort, with one singular charitable goal: to raise funds to benefit the interests of the children of the Parish of Lanteglos-by-Fowey.

The funds raised from this glorious affair enable the organisation to enhance the lives of children in the community with day trips, sporting events and even a visit from Father Christmas himself, amongst many other wonderful things.

Polruan Regatta time!

Our regatta is just a few days away and we have a great programme organised as usual.

The tide is not very helpful this year and so our beach activities have to be squeezed in before midday. Please listen out for announcements regarding our activities.

We encourage you, whether resident or visitor,to join in the events, take part in the carnival, decorate your houses with bunting and flags or follow the scarecrow and business theme of nursery rhymes.

Above all enjoy our special day

JULY

Meet the new Carnival Queen & her Attendants!

Monday 30th May at 11.00am saw our new Carnival Queen being chosen by visitors to the parish.  So meet (left to right) Queen Jasmine & Attendants Mia and Amy.

The tradition of having a Carnival Queen and Attendants goes back many years. At one time there was an older group of royalty supported by a Fairy Queen and attendants, including a page boy -times have changed! The head teacher of the school would select the children, for many years now we have persuaded visitors to our Parish to take on this task. After the initial enthusiasm they always comment on how difficult it is but feel honoured and often come back on Regatta day to see the girls in their lovely dresses.

VISITING POLRUAN...

VISITING POLRUAN...

DURING SUMMER MONTHS AND ESPECIALLY REGATTA WEEKEND, THE VILLAGE CAN BECOME A TAD BUSY, SO HERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT MAY HELP YOU, SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO VISIT US...

  • PARKING - there is only one road in and out of Polruan and access to the car park on the Quay is only unavailable on August Bank Holiday Monday. This is thanks to the generosity of the operators Colin and Shelagh at The Winklepicker.  Instead, we recommend parking at the top of the hill in Townsend car park, or at the car park on St Saviour's Hill and walking down to the Quayside.
  • FERRY - Bodinnick car ferry is 4 miles away, but the passenger ferry from Fowey drops you directly at the Quayside and runs all day from 7-11pm.  The car ferry runs from 7am until 8.45pm (specific times can be obtained here).
  • DOGS - animals are not allowed on the beach, Coal Wharf or the school playing field.
  • REFRESHMENTS - will be available on the quay, from Crumpets Tearooms, The Lugger Inn and also The Russell Inn.
  • SHOPS - The Polruan Store (Fore Street) and The Winklepicker (Quayside) will be open their regular hours.  In addition, the Polruan Holidays Campsite welcomes visitors to their on-site store from 8-11am & 4-9pm daily.
  • CASHPOINT - there is one available in the Polruan Store (be aware the store closes at midday on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday) and cash will be available over the counter at The Winklepicker store on the Quay on Bank Holiday Monday.
  • TOILETS - are situated on Polruan Quay and also up at the entrance to St. Saviour's Car Park.
  • PROGRAMMES - are available from the corner of East / Fore Street on 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th & 29th August along with T-shirts, raffle tickets, sailing entry forms.  Patrons will have programmes delivered to their door. Proceeds from the sale of these programmes and Ball Roll numbers goes towards our fundraising endeavours.  Each yearly programme has been generously supported by the advertisers - please do support them in return.
  • BEACH VOLLEYBALL - entry forms are available on the day or from the corner of East / Fore Street on the dates listed directly above & over the counter at The Winklepicker store Quayside.
